Health is a life long journey; for some, it can be more complicated. I was fortunate to grow up in a household that emphasized the importance of healthy (and tasty!) food as well as regular exercise. I haven't always made good choices though; my road has veered down into the valley of illness at times and my efforts to correct my imbalances have given me a passion for health and wellness.
The prolific shiatsu therapist Skizuko Yamamoto says;
"Carefully observe your activities of thinking, breathing, movement, diet, sex, and sleep, for these are the six fundamentals of health. Within this realm lies success or failure in your physical health and emotional happiness."
By exploring these areas of our lives we seek to enter the realm of wellness in the wholistic sense and tend to all the facets of our mind and body.
If our bodies are our vehicles, then consider the massage therapist as a mechanic. After a certain amount of wear and tear, it's time for a tune up.
Massage therapy works to increase circulation and lymphatic flow, decrease sympathetic nervous system firing, reduce muscle tension, dissolve adhesions in the tissues of the body and create a general sense of relaxation.
I love being an MT, whether I am helping someone work through an injury, easing the discomforts of pregnancy or helping someone unwind from a stressful day, massage is my passion!
